 Origami Workshop-Yurt A

This is a beginner workshop for Origami, the Japanese art of paper-folding, where you can learn how to make simple things out of paper squares, such as a traditional crane, flower, samurai helmet, dragon claws, shurikens, and more. You will also learn how to read the standard Origami direction symbols.  Taught with step-by-step instructions and guidance. Hosted by Adam Wunch.

 

 Battle of the Cosplay Stars - Flag FB Field

Teams will compete in our annual family-fun event. Come take part in classic family picnic games with a Japanese-game-show twist:  3-legged race, Pong, Kan Jam, fill the bucket with water, pie-eating contest, and Wiffle Ball pitch. They all sound innocent enough, but if you’ve ever seen a Japanese game show, you may want to think twice about volunteering for this one. Four people per team may participate. ALL of them deserve respect and recognition throughout the con. Please remember: You can enter all 3 days, but only win once.  Judged by our Con Queen along with her royal subjects. 1 Hour Cosplay (Dragon Edition)-Pop's Lodge

We are going to be making a Dragon for our summer festival and need your cosplay help. We supply the materials and you supply the know how, teams will break into different divisions...head, body, tail etc and will have 1 hour to complete a functioning Dragon Cosplay thats at least 10 ft long.

Imagine baseball, but with water balloons. Hit the balloon and run to the base. The pitcher can then take another balloon to throw to the 1st baseman. Make a Paper Lantern-Roskin

Join us in the dining hall for a Paper lantern workshop. We will supply the materials and show you how to make the craftiest tin lantern around. Later in the evening you can use that lantern at our first Camp Carnival of lights. If you can’t make the walk you can still use the lantern for amazing things such as…seeing at night.        An introduction to Taiko-Pop's Lodge

In this hands on class we will expore the history of Japanese drums as well as the ensemble Taiko drumming. After the brief introduction to the art people will be invited to learn the basics of the drums with the help of the Uconn Kodama Taiko club. With patience and a bit of hard work you will learn to play a simple piece that will be performed later in the day.

 

Muggle Quidditch-Flag FB Field

Come one come all to this fascinating game. Have you ever wanted to play quidditch but realized you cant fly? Well now u can (play quidditch at least i don't think we can fly by ourselves yet). Come join me and my wonderful assistant on the field and get down to basics. We will teach you the ins and outs of muggle quidditch as well as play a game. No broom required. It's not a judged contest, just a chance to walk the runway and strut your stuff and show the world what you did with your cosplay this year. It's more of a chance to share your knowledge with others and maybe even pick up a tip or two for your next cosplay idea. Points will not be given, but it's still a ton of fun.    A CampAnime 4.5 event that we tested out and it ended up being surprisingly fun. We started with a 4 year old (my son) telling really, really bad Knock, Knock jokes. I love the kid but they were just bad. What ended up happening was that everyone got up and they told what seemed like the worst joke they ever heard. It’s like a movie that’s so bad it’s good. Bonsai: an Introduction-Dining Hall

Victor Eng of Bonsai Gardens of Connecticut will be hosting a 90-minute hands-on session (including a video presentation) about the history of the Bonsai. Part of the lecture will deal with the varieties of Bonsai and Victor will bring numerous types to the workshop so you can get a hands-on experience. Flowering and Fruit Bonsai will be on hand as well as the more "traditional" ones. Hosted by Victor Eng.

This 90-minute class has a $15 entry fee to help cover costs. Participants in this workshop will get a Bonsai tree, pot, soil, rocks and a tool set to maintain the Bonsai (a $40 value). We ask that you pre-register ahead of time so we have enough Bonsai trees for everybody. We will have extras in case you forget but letting us know ahead of time would be nice. If you made a lantern at our workshop at the Dining Hall or brought one from home, come join us for a late-night walk throughout the camp. Please do not bring real candles or tea lights...we don't want to burn the camp down! LED candles and lanterns are fine.  The walk starts promptly at 9 pm, so get here a few minutes early if you don't want to get lost.  We will walk a bit through the camp and end at the Bonfire. Hungry, Hungry Hippos Live-Pop’s

Thanks in part to the Lupa Zoo, CampAnime has created a live version of Hungry, Hungry Hippos that involves hippos, apples, and an enclosed arena. Participants will throw fruit at the hippos and whichever hippo/participant pair eats the most fruit wins. Sounds pretty cool, right? Unfortunately it's all a lie....our version involves ball-pit balls, 4 people on dolly carts, and a few people pushing them into the pit and pulling them back out with some rope that’s attached to the dollies.  The hungriest hippo wins! Well, not live exactly. They are actually dead and stuffed, but we’ll have slingshots that you can put the birds in and shoot them at concrete slabs that we have set up and…..wow, I can’t believe you thought we were actually going to do that.
