Origami 101-Yurt A

This is a beginner workshop for Origami, the Japanese art of paper-folding, where you can learn how to make simple things out of paper squares, such as a traditional crane, flower, samurai helmet, dragon claws, shurikens, and more. You will also learn how to read the standard Origami direction symbols.  Taught with step-by-step instructions and guidance. Hosted by Adam Wunch.

 

 

1 hour Cosplay-Roskin

Teams will compete to complete a finished cosplay in one hour using only scraps and leftovers that were donated to us throughout the year. The winning team gets showered in Pocky...if you don't win no worries, dinner is up next. Hosted by HaruVamp.

Dress to impress for our annual cosplay contest. Points are given for originality, overall look, ability to stay in character, and overall attitude. There will be smaller prizes for the best male and female costume as well as an overall grand prize. Please note that cosplayers spend a lot of time and effort on their costumes. ALL of them deserve respect and recognition throughout the con. Please remember: You can enter all 3 days, but only win once.  Judged by our Con Prince and Princess and hosted by Matt and a Mystery Guest in the Dining Hall.

 

Safe Body Art for Cosplay-Yurt A

So you're going to the con as a Smurf and wow, that's a lot of blue body paint. In this panel we will talk about how to safely apply body art for the con, because dying while dressed as a Smurf is just plain wrong. Hosted by Anne Mac Fadyen.

This panel is based off the anime known as “My Hero Academia”, or “Boku No Hero Academia”. It's a con and waking up to eat at 8 am is not everyone’s cup of tea. So if you missed breakfast we will have some oat meal, bread, butter, fruit and a Keurig on hand to help wake you up. It's free, all we ask is that you clean up after yourselves.

After a hearty breakfast what could be better than an early morning workout. Squats, Jumping Jacks, Push up and I seriously can't believe I'd make you do that. Make a Paper Lantern-Dining Hall

Join us in the dining hall for a Paper lantern workshop. We will supply the materials and show you how to make the craftiest tin lantern around. Later, at 9 pm at the Baseball Field,  you can use that lantern at our second Camp Carnival of Lights. Imagine baseball, but with water balloons. Hit the balloon and run to the base. The pitcher can then take another balloon to throw to the 1st baseman. If he catches it before you get there, you are out. If you beat it or the balloon breaks then you are safe. I’m not going to lie: you will get wet! But you’ll also have some fun. Can you speak Japanese?-Roskin

This is a game to see if the contestants can speak Japanese words. There will be a smart device that listens to the contestants voice, and if the contestant pronounces the word properly, they get points. The contestant with the most points at the end wins a mystery prize. Hosted by Tasya Ward.

Autism: My Con Journey- Roskin

As someone who is autistic, knowing that there are people in my life who try to understand Autism makes me feel a bit more safe and secure. Have you ever met someone who has autism but weren’t sure how to interact with them? How to react when they have a reaction to something? In this panel, I will discuss what to expect when you meet that cool Anime fan who happens to be Autistic.  Keep in mind that everyone's experience with Autism is different.  Teams will compete in our annual family-fun event. Come take part in classic family picnic games with a Japanese-game-show twist:  3-legged race, Pong, Kan Jam, fill the bucket with water, pie-eating contest, and Wiffle Ball pitch. They all sound innocent enough, but if you’ve ever seen a Japanese game show, you may want to think twice about volunteering for this one. Four people per team may participate. Hosted by Con Men.

 Bonsai Workshop-Pop's Lodge (7 pm to 8:30 pm)

This 90-minute class has a $15 entry fee to help cover costs. Participants in this workshop will get a Bonsai tree, pot, soil, rocks and a tool set to maintain the Bonsai (a $40 value). Victor will be on hand to walk you through the basics of Bonsai and the requirements to maintain a healthy, happy Bonsai. We ask that you pre-register ahead of time so we have enough Bonsai trees for everybody. We will have extras in case you forget but letting us know ahead of time would be nice. Summer festival- Baseball Field (7:00 to 8:50 pm)

It starts off with a game of Suikawari, after a long hot day at camp who wouldn't want some watermelon and what's better then watermelon? Making a game out of splitting one open. A Japanese picnic game for the whole family kicks off our 1st Summer Festival. Carnival games, silly prizes, a Taiko performance, free food and more. Games will have 2 levels, you can play for free and win comics or pay $1 per ticket to win prizes valued at $7.99 to $44.99.

So, every con has a few panels that get canceled or ran late for one reason or another. Here's the deal: for every panel that doesn't start on time you get 1 pie to hit me in the face with. So if 6 panels get canned, you get 6 shots. Outdoor events canceled or delayed due to rain do not count...sorry.

 Bonsai Workshop Cont.-Pop's Lodge (7 pm to 8:30)

This 90 minute class has a $15 entry fee to help cover costs. Participants in this workshop will get a Bonsai tree, pot, soil, rocks and a tool set to maintain the Bonsai (a $40 value). Victor will be on hand to walk you through the basics of Bonsai and the requirements to maintain a healthy, happy Bonsai. We ask that you pre-register ahead of time so we have enough Bonsai trees for everybody. We will have extras in case you forget, but letting us know ahead of time would be nice. We'll pop a classic movie on the semi-big screen so sit back have a PB&J and Hot Coco and relax. It's not much but it's free for anyone with a late night munchies. We will also have hot dogs and S'mores at the bonfire.

Its starts off with a game of Suikawari, after a long hot day at camp who wouldn't want some watermelon and what's better then watermelon? Making a game out of splitting one open. A Japanese picnic game for the whole family kicks off our 1st Summer Festival. Carnival games, silly prizes, a Taiko performance, free food and maybe even a Dragon will be on hand to help celebrate our 1st mini carnival.

Our fourth year doing a musical/comedy stage show. We give the performers 2 hours to write and rehearse whatever comes to mind and then they perform it live. Keep in mind that 2 hours isn't a whole lot of time, so don't expect Shakespeare. You should expect to laugh quite a though :) .Hosted by the one, the only - *drum roll* -  ... Lantern Festival- Meet on the Baseball Field

If you made a lantern at our workshop at the Dining Hall or brought one from home, come join us for a late-night walk throughout the camp. Please do not bring real candles or tea lights...we don't want to burn the camp down! LED candles and lanterns are fine.  The walk starts promptly at 9 pm, so get here a few minutes early if you don't want to get lost.  We will walk a bit through the camp and end at the Bonfire. It's not a judged contest, just a chance to walk the runway and strut your stuff and show the world what you did with your cosplay this year. The questions that we will ask you will be mostly about how you made your cosplay and props. We will not be asking you to answer "in character". It's more of a chance to share your knowledge with others and maybe even pick up a tip or two for your next cosplay idea. Points will not be given, but it's still a ton of fun. Teams will compete in our annual family-fun event. Come take part in classic family picnic games with a Japanese-game-show twist:  3-legged race, Pong, Kan Jam, fill the bucket with water, pie-eating contest, and Wiffle Ball pitch.
